THE VIRTUAL RIDE

WHAT'S A VIRTUAL RIDER?

Sitting on a bike seat for 8 hours straight, two days in a row doesn’t sound fun to you? That’s OK, you can still be part of the ride! Register as a Virtual Rider and become an integral part in helping us fight poverty! Pledge to ride 207 miles – on a spin bike, with your family around the neighborhood… or none at all! Whatever works for you to raise those hard-earned donations to put families in homes.

How does it work?

  • Virtual Riders commit to raising a minimum of $150 but are encouraged to stretch past their commitment and raise as much money as possible to put families in homes (check out our FAQs for discounted family commitments).
  • The fee to register is $1. Yep, you read that right: $1 puts you on the most awesome team to fight poverty.
  • If the fundraising minimum hasn’t been met by the deadline of March 13, 2020, your outstanding balance will be charged to your credit card by 1MISSION.
  • As soon as you register, you’ll receive access to your own fundraising page to personalize, as well as great fundraising tools and resources to help you reach and exceed your goals. There are now two options available to help you track your miles:
    • You’ll also receive instructions showing you how to create your own mile tracker via plotaroute.com. As you enter your mileage, it will move your tracker towards Puerto Peñasco, Mexico!
    • Join our Strava “Bikes Fight Poverty Virtual Ride” club to help you track your miles, meet other virtual riders around the country to challenge and encourage each other. The best part of this event is the community you get when you come together to do something bigger than yourselves.

Virtual Rider perks.

  • If you have a road bike, come be a part of what makes Bikes Fight Poverty so great and join in on the planned training rides all around the Valley from August to February. The easiest way to find these planned rides is to join our Facebook group.
  • By registering, you’ll automatically receive a Bikes Fight Poverty t-shirt to help you proudly rep 1MISSION and the ride.
  • Fundraising Incentives:
    • Track a total of 207 miles by February 9, 2020 through our Strava club and you will be sent the official rider shirt in February.
    • Raise $300 before January 31, 2020 and be invited to attend the Bikes Fight Poverty Launch Party.
    • Raise $500 before Nov. 15, 2019 and earn yourself the official 2019 Bikes Fight Poverty Jersey.
    • Raise $750 by February 21, 2020 and be invited to come down to Mexico to build a house with the Bikes Fight Poverty team in March.

Bikes Fight Poverty Virtual Ride

The goal of Bikes Fight Poverty is to raise as much money as possible to help end poverty. Sure, more people would probably get involved if there was a lower fundraising minimum but Bikes Fight Poverty is organized so that a manageable number of riders can participate while simultaneously raising as much money as possible to put families in homes.
Yes. You must be at least 15 to ride 1MISSION’s Bikes Fight Poverty 2Day ride. Those that are under the age of 18 at the time of the ride must be accompanied by a parent or designated guardian during the entire ride. This means the parent must be a registered rider

For the Virtual Ride there is no age limit. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Virtual Riders are individuals or families who choose to participate in 1MISSION’s Bikes Fight Poverty Event by pledging miles to be ridden (but don’t worry, we aren’t going to keep tabs on you)! Most importantly, you are fundraising to put families in homes.

Virtual Riders that have access to a road bike are encouraged to join in with the Route Riders on their weekly training rides.
